Have you ever wondered what is an electrical health inspection and what does it cost? Well, just like visiting your doctor for regular check-ups helps keep you in tip-top shape, a regular check-up for your electrical systems can do the same. At CK Electric, we understand that homeowners and businesses rely on their electrical systems 24 hours a day, 7-days a week and need expert, reliable professionals to diagnose and treat their electrical systems. Just as you wouldn’t call a dentist for a heart problem, you should always use a licensed and insured electrical provider for your electrical needs. At CK Electric, we ensure that our team maintains regular continuing education to stay on top of changing technology and code requirements.
At CK Electric, we recommend having your systems checked at least once every 5-10 years or whenever moving into a new home. Depending on the size of the structure, this inspection can take anywhere from ½ day to several days. The pricing will be determined by the intricacies and size of the system and can range anywhere from $500 to $1000 or more.
What happens during the inspection?
A licensed and insured electrician will arrive to perform the inspection. The inspection will include all major accessible areas of the structure. When performing an inspection, CK Electric’s electricians will inspect the panel box, ground fault receptacles (aka GFCI), receptacles, evaluate the type of wire used in the system, junction boxes, the service entrance cable and disconnects. The electrician will often use thermal imaging to locate any hot spots in the panel that could indicate wear or needed repairs. The electrician will also correct minor issues as they go along. For example, tightening loose receptacles or correcting back-stabbed receptacles. The electrician will generate a report notating findings and repair recommendations as applicable.
Why should I have this service performed?
Just like people, your electrical systems age and many parts wear out over time. Further, the National Electrical Code (NEC) is updated every 3 years so even if your home was code compliant when you purchased it, as time passes new technology and codes make upgrades necessary to keep the system working as it should. An inspection can help identify potential issues before they become major, costly repairs. As the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
